Enjoyed this article, especially the nostalgia it evoked and the list itself. Added The City in Glass by Nghi Vo to my TBR since I've been craving a good fantasy read lately. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic post! I am tired and the performative life is just not for me. It probably doesn’t help that I’m a program manager in my day job, and I handle projects and programs all day long. I don’t want to do that in my non-work life 😬.
Oof yes that would just be too much. I feel like our jobs are just taking more and more and more. Then feeling like we have to perform after work, on top of all the other responsibilities we have, is just too much.
That sounds so nice! Travel during the summer is so stressful, not to mention the crazy heat in so many parts of the world. Those are so wonderful! I just finished the first one, and I am obsessed with Emma.
Some amazing books on this list. Lovely Emily Wilde's trilogy, and i'll gobble up anything by Anne Pratchett! I've only seen The Talented Mr Ripley in the theatre, but it was so intense and all-consuming that i'm not sure i'm quite ready to pick up the book.
Can we redo Tomato Girl Summer? Somehow I missed this but it sounds right up my street. Far better than Sardine Summer.
Pitali ste kako provodim ovo leto. Veku, u oblasti Makedonika, tj. Na planini Vici. Pogledajte moje tekstove na ovoj mreži o četiri generacije porodice Pavlović. Ukoliko znate neke Pavloviće oko Vas, molim Vas da ih uputite na moje tekstove. Srdačan pozdrav iz Beograda, Srbija.😄😉🤗😊☺️
I love how you include Ina. Books like these are some of my favorite ways to read unoptimized.
Ina is my hero!!! My dream is to meet her someday. I love her approach to life and to entertaining.
Don’t forget rat girl summer!! It was that just a NYC thing?
Love this reminder to wind down!!
WHAT? Rat girl summer is a bridge too far omg 😆🤣
Unfortunately it comes with that territory living in nyc 😂😂 but I think it just meant having a feral and wild summer LOL
hahahaha still no thanks. The last thing I want to associate my summer with is a terrifying rodent.
Hahaha we cope with dark humor to survive nyc

Thank you, Charlie! I really hope you like it. It’s a bit slow and not very plot driven, but I deeply love that book.

I love this idea. The last couple of summers we’ve mostly stayed home and not bothered with the stress of travel.
I’m currently working through the Emma M. Lion journals as well as some smaller name audiobooks.

She has such a fun and sarcastic voice!
She DOES! And I love her attitude no matter what life throws her.
This is a lovely article, Elle. ❤️ I love unoptimized days.
Thank you! Me too. The older I get, the more I need them!

Emily Wilde is such a good comfort series!
Haha we can redo anything we want. Sardine Girl summer is for a braver girl than me.
